“Porftolio Wordpress Theme” is a wordpress theme designed for web portfolios and (for now) just for web portfolios. It is coming with an Administrative Panel from where you can edit the head quote text, you can edit all theme colors, font families, font sizes and you can fill a curriculum vitae and display it into a special page. Pretty Cool, eh?

Incredible theme! Thanks
I’ve subscribed to your RSS Feed. I can’t wait for the release of the movie database theme!
All your theme are fantastic!!! You are a god!
and it’s all free.
Thanks
He is immense like.
Thank you very much for this excellent theme. Keep up the good work … waiting for more!
Great themes, buddy!
hi Sorel just checking out your themes they look great!
any ideas? im using a local version of wp with xampp, when i try to open the page for the portfolio settings my link takes me to
http://localhost/wordpress/wp-admin/F:/xampplite/htdocs/wordpress/wp-content/themes/Portfolio/functions.php
??
Thanks everybody!
@Roger: Do you use WP 2.3? If yes upgrade to latest version
@sorel nope 2.5!
just tried it on a ‘live’ site not a local install and the same thing!?
@sorel so I got what the problem was I am using on all my sites the admin drop down menu from Ozh this for some reason gives the url above rather than adding admin.php?page= after /wp-admin/
just thought i would add this in case anyone else had the same problem later and thought its something wrong with the theme, its not
now i’m ready to take the theme for a test drive
Amazing! I like the colors.
So, are the posts in no way clickable? Did you disable that for this theme?
I like the look of this a lot, but I have to think how it would work with no way to directly link to individual posts. Or am I wrong?
@jon if you add
[code] <a href=”" rel=”bookmark” title=”Permanent Link to “>[code]
in between the h2 tags on line 356 of index.php then i took the single.php from sorel’s brightness theme and copied it into the portfolio theme folder then delete line 19 which is the call to the sidebar, this works but you will need to add some style. you can copy the style’s from the style.css in the brightness theme to get the class names and then paste it into index.php of the portfolio theme but it still looks a bit strange so you will need to play around!
i’m just a beginner so maybe someone has a better solution?
the code didnt paste right into the previous comment but if you look at the code in between the h2 tags of index.php in sorel’s brightness theme line 14 this is the code to copy into the portfolio index.php line 356.
@sorel how do you put code in your comments?
@Jon: This is the first version, is designed only for perspective. In the 1.1 version there will be an addon for single / commens page.
@Roger: I will install a plugin right now.
@Sorel: Oh, OK! Because as it is right now, if someone clicks on an item in the RSS feed, it can only go back to the home page, whether or not that post is actually displayed there.
Thanks for your efforts.
@Sorel: Hey, here’s an idea that would be pretty simple for you but would add useability to the Theme Customization Setting admin page.
Why not put the default settings in text beside each of the boxes? That way, users know what they get if they don’t fill in the boxes. Plus, it’d make it easier to discern what box changes what things on your page.
Even better would be a small swatch of color after the hex code, but that would require a bit more on your part.
Thanks!
Jon
Hi, I just wanted to let you know I’ve added the Portfolio theme to my list of the best WordPress themes available, which you can find at http://www.bestwpthemes.com. Congratulations!
I should add that I think there are elements of the theme that need improving. But still… great work!
thank good template wordpress
Hey the download link seems to download a file that isn’t right. Its a 28k zip file that doesn’t work… Could you email or fix the file? Thanks
CAN SOMEONE PLESE MAKE A VIDEO ON HOW TO POST PLEASE I HAVE ALREADY SPENT 5hrs and cant post!
THANKS
hi Sorel, The layout is not good for other browser. I try to use Mozzilla. The header is not same if I use Internet explorer.
Any Advice?
@Jon: The next version will come with a better customization page. Thanks for ideas!
@Matt: Thanks!
@Josh: I tried and it works, here..
@Dian: Have you changed something? The basic version works on both IE and Firefox here.
This theme looks perfect!
If only I could get this zip file not to self replicate in an infinite loop!
When I download the theme, I try to unzip it and then it becomes another zip file, which I unzip, which becomes another zip file (It is an infinite loop!)
Please oh please fix this. I would love to get this theme. =)
Thanks!
Hey Sorel,
Sorry to dbl-post, I just wanted to provide you information on your file. It is not an isolated issue as you may have thought when Josh posted the same problem.
If you could, please consider archiving the file also in tar.gz. Why does tar.gz rock? Simple! I can wget http://thefile.com strait from my server and extract it in two lines, opposed to downloading it, extracting it and then uploading it and then having to worry about deleting the files….
Consider this, because the .zip you have provided does not work on Mac OSX.
Thank you, your website has been of help to me on many occasions, don’t know what is up with this specific zip file…
triple-post.
For some reason Firefox on MacOSX corrupts the file.
So, if you have MacOSX, and are experiencing troubles with downloading this file through Firefox, then switch to Safari, download again and your problem will be solved.
Sorel, sorry for flooding your comments, it was not in bad intention. Still, consider the tar.gz alternative for us efficient types. =) Thanks again!
Great theme i love it thanx man.
Hi Sorel, How to make “work” page can display only 3 image per page? and have old entries below?
Thank you
Dian
Hi Sorel,
You do very excellent work. This portfolio theme is really nice- I’m looking forward to seeing its progression into 1.2!
Keep up the great work.
Hey great wordpress theme. Can’t wait to get it rocking. I am having some trouble displaying images. Namely, my logo. My installation is also hesitant to display even the rss image. Anyone else having this issue? I’m a noob, am I missing something simple? Thanks!
Great theme !
I would like to know how I can publish more than one image on a post.
Thank you very much
This theme is really nice and I’m looking forward to the version with clickable posts.
Please contact me Sorel when you can, thanks!
Hi Sorel, How to make “work” page can display only 3 image per page? and have old entries below?
Thank you
Dian
Thank you so much for this wonderfully clean theme! I love how easy it is to change the colors and such! I just have one question…is there a way to display more items/entries on the page? I think I have 5 on there now so my 6th must have dropped off. If there isn’t a way to display more items on the page, how can I provide a “next page” type of link for people to click on?
very nice theme for a free one..
thanks.
I can’t figure what I’m doing wrong. My work won’t show up in the image field.
I don’t think this theme should be as difficult to build as it is. I can’t get images to work, more, I can’t figure out if this is stripping images out of the post, or custom field as its not documented anywhere? I also can’t figure out what is getting displayed on the actual post. Its not content within the post, so maybe a custom field?
Please let me know if there is a tutorial on this theme somewhere.
This theme is great, and great that its free, but F*U*K ATLEAST give some sort of FAQ to show how to post up articles and pice. Ive used many wp themes in the past and this one is quite a pain, esp with no instructions.
I love this theme and had such high opes. But unortunately it is so incredibly diificult to do anything. Blank fill ins to change colors, confusing to be able post an image. It assumed you know much more about coding/hacking. IT NEED A COMPREHENSIVE SET OF INSTRUCTIONS or set up for an average user that is much more user friendly.
Great theme, but like the last couple posts, I have no idea how to get the portfolio images working. I don’t understand how each portfolio post is a different category? I have no idea how to get the portfolio images working, or how it displays the “client” “work” and “link”? It seems these are some sort of php variable?
This theme works with WP 2.6?
Brightness theme work fine, but this portfolio theme didn´t!.
Can you help me?
Best.
anybody found a way to actually post an item??? Some instructions from the author would be welcome.
Theme won’t allow me to unpack the zip. Tried like 100 times.
@ Gatella.
Did you resolve the WordPress 2.6 issue with this theme..? We’re having the same incompatibility issue.
I bought domain to create portfolio for myself but i don’t know how to setup this one. I mean i can’t add images, don’t know howto create about page. My WP version is 2.6.
Please update this wp theme to make this work or give us some tips.
The image field and image details are probably using custom fields. You just have to figure out what the custom field keys are. But I definitely agree that if you intend to release a theme for public consumption, even if you’re not going to set up a support forum, the minimum requirement is some documentation.
I was able to get mine situated for what I wanted it to do. There is just some tweaking of the code needed. Im not sure how you are “supposed” to post in this theme so I just created some custom fields to do what I wanted. I enjoy it….especially since its free
How do you even upload pictures to this to get them to show up like in the example? Same with the text. How does all of that even work. There’s no tutorial for it.
@Fred= I dont know the “proper” way of doing either images or descriptions so I just created my own way.
For the details I made it pull the Excerpt for that post and created a custom field to except the images.
What about the images?
Ohhh, I see what you did. Could you show me the code that you used for it?
Im not sure the designer would like it too much but if you use the contact form on my site I’ll be more then happy to send you the code
I sent you an email yesterday actually. my email is superfluff@creativefluff.com in case you need it still.
Oh sorry about that Fred, I had my form pointing to the wrong e-mail lol I sent you my index.php with my changes. Let me know if you need a screencast as it will only take a few minutes.
Hey i dont understand how to get the images into the “posts”?! And my ABOUt Page with the CV isnt there
@WpJunkie : Could you mail me your index to?! My email: info@i-sho.de , thanks.
No problem jano, I sent it to you.
First of all, nice theme. But, I also having the same problem like others, how to add text and descriptions for client, company name, link, and the image. Can you tell me how to do that? Much appreciated thanks.
Nice template…Thanks
if you look at the index.php and then functions.php it kinda explains what you need to do.
basically you need to put brackets around a field and then the value of it…
example:
[client]client name[/client]
it will pull out ‘client name’ and format it out.
Also… fill in your CV info… the create a page called About (or CV or anything) and then at the bottom of the page, you should see an option for “Page Theme” expand that box and tell it to use the “AboutPage”
@allen thanks that was really helpful. just to clarify, all you have to do to get images working is add the following tag to your post:
[image]http://somethinglikeflickr.com/image.jpg[/image]
So do *not* upload a photo in this template and now i’m gonna try to make it clickable…
Thank you for sharing this - very very kind of you!
anyone find out how to make the image clickable? :/
In mine, the images doesn´t appar. What i need to do to show the images???
@Alexandre D’Andrea
[image]http://somethinglikeflickr.com/image.jpg[/image]
That is one way to get the images to appear, but there is a lot more wrong with this theme then just the images.
@swaggle: The way I used to have mine is I made a custom field “url” and for each post that i wanted to have a linkable image, it would be much easier. Im going to make a screencast tonight for how I got mine working. It is no longer my main theme but should be up later as my portfolio.
@WP Junkie
Awesome thanks a lot!
OK so i figured it out. When putting in a post click on HTML and you’ll see the fields to fill in right there. Now only if it said that somewhere on the download. Great theme.
regarding above, never mind. i was wrong.
Ok guys, I tried out Jing for the screen cast so the videos are huge but here they are. If you have any questions please leave a comment under the post and Ill try my best to help you out. Good Luck!!
http://wpjunkie.com/2008/08/28/portfolio-tutorial/
The zip file of the Portfolio theme is broken or wrong in some way. It is only 32 KB in size, can’t be extracted on Mac (on Windows it works) and the theme doesn’t work if you install it.
Pity, it looks nice though, from what I can see in the screenshots. Is there anyone that has a working version of this theme that can be e-mailed to me? Thanks! portfolio@e-mar.nl
look at functions.php… the way posts are displayed is all right there. In the loop, it calls in some custom functions, which just searches the content for specific words wrapped in brackets and then filters out whats between and then echos out what to do.
like for the link line… I change the function to this:
function pf_uri($text) { preg_match("/\[link\](.+?)\[\/link\](.*)/is”, $text, $text2); if ($text2[1] !== NULL) { echo ‘Link: ‘.$text2[1].’‘; } }
to get the image clickable is doable…
change line 353 of index.php to:
<a href=""><img src="" alt="" />
and add a function in function.php like this:
function pf_uri2($text) { preg_match("/\[link\](.+?)\[\/link\](.*)/is”, $text, $text2); echo $text2[1]; }
ack… sorry the full lines of code didnt show through in the comments… so disregard tho code in my comment
@Allen: That’s why I figured it would be easier to just put up my index.php file I use lol Trying to type it all is a pain
Is this theme compatible with 2.6? I cant see the images I upload!
pleasse help!
I tried installing this theme, but it doesn’t work. All that shows up is standard HTML text. My WordPress version is 2.6. Can anyone provide any clues as to how to get the theme working? Or is it incompatible with WP 2.6? Thanks in advance for any help.
Same problem with the wordpress 2.6 . any solution for that issue ?
@Edo @Kelly @Garantipc editor
Read the comments above.
I love the way this portfolio theme works but i am having a strange issue… this may be very basic but I don’t now… how am I supposed to get an image to be displayed in a post? whenever I post and insert an image into a post it just simply shows up as a square on the page with the border that is supposed to be aroudn the image but no image…. ideas? im posting into the right category and all.. thanks in advance..
I can’t seem to figure out why my post is not showing up: http://endesignstudio.net/category/web-redesign/
Any ideas?
Thanks!
the example of my problem is here: http://www.austinmann.com/newwork/
I am having the same problem as Austin: http://endesignstudio.net/
No posts show up. No image or text.

Watch the videos maybe they will help you. Try looking at the index.php that is provided there and just look at where the custom fields are added and simply cut and paste into yours that way your custom backgrounds and logos arent replaced.
Hi,
I’ve translated this theme in italian, you can find it there -> http://www.rmsoft.net/?p=140
Bye!
Thanks for this theme….planning to use this for my website!!
Thx a lot for the nice tutorial and the psd - exactly what I was looking for!
The more time that is spent dissecting, analyzing, and critiquing a design by the wrong kinds of people the worse that design gets. The same trend applies to the number of people involved in the design process.
Thx a lot for infomation!
Is this compatible with 2.6.1? I loaded it and it all functions properly besides the pictures dont load.
[uri] should actually be [link] in the example above… Just caught that…
I tried to find the answer within the comments but haven’t been able to, although perhaps I don’t know what quite to look for. I installed this theme but for whatever reason it is broken and only display the text from the theme. There is no background and everything is messed up. Is this a common problem? Is it a problem with one of the new Wordpress updates?
Thanks in advance for any solution. I REALLY love this theme and want to use it but can’t until I figure out the solution.
@ Paul: what version are you using? I think alot of people are having problems with it in version 2.6
I am using 2.6 right now (haven’t upgraded to 2.6.1 since it isn’t really a needed upgrade). Hopefully there is a fix that someone finds for it.
thanks a lot for sharing. Good luck for you
yep . looks like its not compatible with wordpress 2.6 ++
i get a simple html page , i used the panel but couldnt get the name color or text to change .
but over all i love the design , i hope you get to release a fix for it .
keep up the good work .
This is perfect for my portfolio. thank you sir!
This theme won’t even activate for 2.6.2. Is there a fix on the way?
Nice, clean theme. Thanks a lot. I’m follow your feed.
loving playing around with this but if as you say - using the single.php from brighness can you still have a sidebar as id like to have a side bar of sub-pages?
I just installed it on a clients site- flowercitycakes.com and it’s on version 2.6 working just fine.
when you create a post put the title in the normal field,
and in the HTML field of the editor enter information for any of the six variables(if you don’t want to use one don’t put it in and it won’t show up):
[image]http://yourwebsite.com/image.file[/image]
[client]client name[/client]
[company]company name[/company]
[work]work name[/work]
[uri]portfolio item uri[/uri]
[description]the description of the portfolio item[/description]
and there you have it.
ok ive knackered it - i was following the SEO tutorial and changed the default category for posts to something other than the default now i dont have any posts listed on the home page
thats for sure, dude
Hello i’m new to blogs, etc
and i’m having a problem managing to writing and displaying information on this portfolio blog like it should.
In my administration mode, I write an article, but when I check my blog, I can’t figure how to have the picture (i only see what I’ve typed as title instead) and I can’t figure how to display the informations like client name, projects, the four special pieces of information that appear on the preview right here.
if someone can help, really appreciated.
Thanks
Ok I’m beginning to figure out, I need tu used special terms between [ ] but then, here is my question, why not using Custom Fields that can be saved and used each time we make a new post ? is’nt possible to make things easier ?
thanks to share your opinion.
@Matt: Hey Matt, thats the reason that I changed up the index.php in my version because I like using custom fields for images.

Hello!
First of all, my congratulation for this great theme, but I’m trying to use it and it gives me an error. When I try to go to the settings page in the menu it appears a 404 error, which says that the page isn’t there… What should I have to do?
Thanks!
PS: The blog is in: http://www.adriapifarre.com/artefacto/bloc

Thanks so much for this template!
WP newbie here. Great template! I cant get my formatting like your example where you have the image on left and text with links on the right. I went to enter a post and all I see is the headline and a small square where my image is supposed to be. What am I missing? Thanks.
I cannot see any new posts after I’ve made 4 posts. New posts simply do not show up. Does anyone know how to fix this?
thanks in advance
@Sam and Zim: Some people have had problems with the newest version of Wordpress. Some people were talking about that, check the comments just above yours. Good luck.
anyone know how to make a different page the home page? I’ve created a simple page called “home” instead of the included “homepage”. when i change the front page settings in the admin to use the created page, the styling disappears and the page is stripped of all styles. anyone have any ideas on how to do this?
Hi,
What do I need to add to be able to show 5 posts and then have a NEXT or PREVIOUS link ?
Many thanks, I’m not good at coding.
Me again, I got the latest WP version and it seems I can’t show more than 5 posts, even if I set the reading setting to more…??
Thanks
Hi. Thanks for this great Theme!
How do I restrict the number of works that is displayed in the latest work section on the frontpage??
Cheers!
Found it. You have to change
$my_query = new WP_Query("category_name=$portfoliocategory&showposts=1");I’m struggling on the following thing. Perhaps someone could give me a hint:
Besides the Workexamples I want the Frontpage to display Blog (Text) Entries. That means I’d like to create a new linkitem in the menu linking to ‘blog’. On the blog page posts from a category other than the work category are displayed. And one of these entries is then displayed on the frontpage.
Basically I can’t manage to set up a page that displays entries from a certain category.
Any clues?
Figured that out as well. Sorry for spamming and thanks for this amazing theme. Will post a link soon.

A really great and flexible theme. This might be a silly question, but are you using custom fields for the images? How does the theme pick up the images? I have tried using pf_image as a custom field key, have tried inserting the images inside of the post content, so far nothing has work??
Any assistance, am I doing something wrong?
